Preface The Most Difficult Part of the Journey ……. 1

Chapter 1: What Comes After Surgery? …………….. 7

Chapter 2: Pressure From Those Around You ……. 29

Removing the cancer lump in your breast is easy. Any surgeon can do that for you. But what you do after your surgery will determine the outcome — whether you have quality life or not.

I am saying this not to frighten you but rather to make you realize that from this point on, the road of your cancer journey will be full of pot holes and land mines. It is up to you to negotiate your path safely.

Over the years, I have seen failures and disappointments. Can we learn from these failures, instead of making the same mistakes and suffer the consequences ourselves?

Henry Ford once said, If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.

Albert Einstein was more to the point when he said, Insanity is doing that same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Preface
The most difficult part of the journey

As I am putting together this book, I received two emails. One was from a lady in Thailand. Her mother found many lumps in her breast. One lump, 2.2 x 3.5 cm in size, was suspected to be cancerous.

Then a friend from Europe wrote, “As a saying goes, no news is good news. Unfortunately, am writing to you now, to ask for your kind advice and help. Recently, my left breast turned hard and swelled. I went to the gynaecologist this afternoon. She did an ultrasound and took a biopsy immediately. I will have to see her soonest, for the next appointment, as she said it is urgent.”

My reply to them was, “Don’t panic. Download this book, A lump in my breast, what to do now, into your hand phone. Please read it carefully.”

According to the World Cancer Research Fund International website, in 2012 alone, nearly 1.7 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer.

Like the ladies above, many women would be asking the same question every day, What to do if I have a lump in my breast?. My answer is, “Don’t panic. Go and see your doctor and find out if it is cancerous or benign.”

In the second book, you may want to ask, Can I keep my cancerous breast? My answer is: “No! Get it out” and I explained why.

In the third book, I answered the questions, Should I go for a lumpectomy or mastectomy? What about breast reconstruction?

The steps you need to take up to this point are same as those that your doctor would want you to take. In the fourth book, you want to ask, What is next after my breast surgery? This is where the doctors and I would differ in our approach. And unfortunately too, this is the beginning of the most difficult part of the cancer journey.

Albert Einstein was more to the point when he said,

Insanity is doing that same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

The next question that comes to mind is, If I were to follow your advice, can I be guaranteed that I succeed? I wish I can say yes to make everyone happy. But unfortunately I am not truthful if I say yes.
